Recordings made on May 15, 1988, Pentecost Sunday, of Songs to the Saints and Sambas from the Marmelada quilombola community in Gilbués, Piauí. The singing and the rhythms of the foliãs and foliões in these recordings are precious memories from several generations of devotees, revelers, and admirers of the Marmelada community’s musical wisdom, particularly linked to their main celebration: the Folia do Divino Espírito Santo (celebration of the Holy Spirit). The recordings underwent audio processing and editing by the Experimental Cycle of Popular Arts (CICLOPES) and are now available as public memories of the popular arts of Marmelada, Piauí, and Brazil.
