    Rezas cantadas dos sertões do Piauí, volume 1. Cantos da Esmola: memórias de 1988.

    Rare musical recordings of the Esmolas from the Marmelada community in Gilbués, Piauí. The Esmolas are a traditional singing ritual dedicated to the saints, led by foliões and foliãs—master musicians in song, drum, tambourine, rabeca (traditional fiddle), and, more recently, the accordion. The Esmolas take place as part of the procession of flags and saints through the communities during patron saint festivities, as well as in the fulfillment of vows. These 1988 Esmolas were recorded on a tape recorder by Domingos Vilarino and Maximiano Rodrigues on May 15, 1988, Whitsunday (Pentecost Sunday). The digitized material was processed and edited by the Experimental Cycle of Popular Arts (CICLOPES) of the Federal University of the São Francisco Valley (UNIVASF); despite being degraded, a large portion of the original audio was successfully recovered.

    REZAS CANTADAS DOS SERTÕES DO PIAUÍ, VOLUME 2. A São Sebastião: cantos e benditos do festejo de São Sebastião de Bonfim do Piauí.

    Recordings of sung prayers from the days of the raising and lowering of the mast and flag of the Feast of Saint Sebastian, urban area of Bonfim do Piauí. Hosted at Zé Bernardina’s house, Saint Sebastian square and terreiro. Devotees, the faithful, and admirers of the saint gather every night over ten days for prayers and chants to the saint. On the 1st day, the flag and mast are raised with prayers and chants announcing the beginning of the feast. On the 10th day, the flag and mast are lowered to close the feast of Saint Sebastian, honoring him with farewell chants and prayers. Recordings from January 2026.     REZAS CANTADAS DOS SERTÕES DO PIAUÍ, VOLUME 5. Ao Divino Espírito Santo de Bonfim do Piauí.

    Recordings of sung prayers from the Folia (devotional procession) of the Divine Holy Spirit from Bonfim do Piauí. This is an old feast, founded in the early 20th century by devout women of the Divine Holy Spirit who came from Gilbués, Piauí. The Divino (Holy Spirit) from Bonfim do Piauí carries out the procession (giro) of the holy flag through both urban and rural areas over nine days, visiting the homes of those who wish to receive it. Ribbons, alms, small wooden doves (pombinhas), and prayers intertwine throughout the ten days of festivities, with devotees walking with the flag by day and praying at night at the house hosting the flag and the sacred mast of the Divino. On the 1st day, the flag and mast are raised along with the doves of the Divino; on the 10th day, the celebration concludes with the lowering of the mast, flag, and doves. The feast is hosted in the urban area of Bonfim do Piauí, at Iraci’s house, with Zé Bernardina’s house safeguarding the holy flag and the altar for the rest of the year.
