    In contemporary society, the principles underlying the development of open science and open data policies have been enhanced by information and communication technologies, making these emerging phenomena more transparent, participatory, and collaborative. By extension, they promote democratic access to quality information in the face of a growing wave of obscurantism and denialism in society. According to Shmagun et al. (2020), information and communication technologies make open science possible by expanding the boundaries of knowledge dissemination to the public beyond the academic community.     Gerenciamento de redes sociais na sociedade da informação: uma reflexão sobre o uso do aplicativo Instagram como um instrumento de marketing pelo Sistema Integrado de Bibliotecas da Univasf

    It addresses the use of the Instagram application as a tool to promote the informational products and services offered by the University Libraries, configuring it, also, as a direct and effective channel of interaction and communication between the information unit and its users. The study discusses as well the importance of planning for managing the social network Instagram, listing guidelines and guideness adopted by the Integrated Library System of the Federal University São Francisco Valley - SIBI Univasf, to obtain positive results in the use of this particular social media. It is an exploratory work that integrated bibliographic research in its methodology to acknowledge the main discussions about the subject and the theoretical review of the area, through qualitative analysis, which supported the practical application of building the social network. It had been considered that the strategy thought and used to create and maintaining the SIBI profile on Instagram has been shown as adequate and assertive. It is concluded that the Instagram app has been proving to be an important marketing tool and a virtual reference service, contributing to the approximation of the academic community and the external public, disseminating knowledge, and providing quality service.
